Learning to Love Our Bodies When We Are Overweight

Updated: Apr 7

For many of us, the relationship with our bodies can be complicated, especially when we feel dissatisfied with our weight. Society’s standards often pressure us to look a certain way, but the truth is, God sees us as wonderfully made—just as we are. In Psalm 139:14, it says, “I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well.” This scripture reminds us that our bodies, no matter their size, are a beautiful creation of God.

When we harbor negative feelings about our bodies, it creates a barrier to true healing and self-love. Hating our bodies can lead to frustration, shame, and stress, which ultimately affects our overall well-being and even hinders weight loss. On the other hand, when we begin to accept and love ourselves, we open the door to healthier habits and positive change.

Love doesn’t mean ignoring the need for improvement; it means accepting where we are while committing to bettering ourselves. When we focus on loving our bodies and honoring them with nourishing food, exercise, and self-care, weight loss becomes a natural byproduct of that love. God calls us to be good stewards of our bodies, and that starts with how we view and treat them.

Instead of focusing on the number on the scale or comparing ourselves to others, let’s shift our perspective. Embrace gratitude for the body you have, and trust that as you nurture it with love and care, transformation will come. Accepting ourselves fully is key to unlocking the potential for lasting change, inside and out.

Remember, you are fearfully and wonderfully made, and your worth is not defined by your weight. When you love your body, you’re free to let go of the weight that’s holding you back. XOXO ~ Kimberly
